I watched District 9 last night and I have to say, it was an amazing movie. The visuals were dead-on realistic. This a movie also did a great job in using art to reflect very powerful issues occurring in our world in a very subtle way.
District 9 is directed by Neill Blomkamp, written by Blomkamp and Terri Tatchell, and produced by Peter Jackson, the producers and crew decided to shoot using the digital Red One camera, as well as some Sony EX1 and EX3s. The location for the movies’ District 9 was an actual impoverished neighborhood from which people were being forced to relocate to government-subsidised housing.
The story is adapted from Alive in Joburg, a 2005 short film directed by Blomkamp. District 9 is inspired by historical events that took place in South Africa, during the apartheid era.
