Here is an announcement I have received regarding a local Siggraph meeting in Fort Lauderdale Florida on June 9th 2011 by non other than Digital Domain Media Group.
Digital Domain is known for their amazing visual effects work on feature films such as I-Robot, Benjamin Button, Tron, Star Trek and countless other movies and commercials.

Digital Domain Holdings and The Fort Lauderdale SIGGRAPH Chapter Presents:
We are pleased to announce our Fort Lauderdale ACM SIGGRAPH Professional Chapter meeting for June 9th, 2011. Stan Szymanski, Head of Digital Studio, and Jon Karafin, Director of Production Operations will present their insights on growth and activity taking place at Digital Domain Media Group – Port Saint Lucie. Mr. Szymanski will present a general overview of the company and it’s divisions. Mr. Karafin will expand on the Stereoscopic Division with its’ operating methodology, pipeline, and processes.
The program will start at 7 pm sharp.
We are coordinating the event with the Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale, 1 East Las Olas Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301. It is FREE of charge, but we encourage you to join or renew your chapter membership ($10 for students, $20 for professionals since 1994).

Digital Domain Media Group:
Stan Szymanski (Head of Digital Studio). Mr. Szymanski is the Head of Digital Studio at Digital Domain Media Group. He is a Senior Visual Effects and Animation Executive with a twenty-eight year track record of achievement in Technical Direction, Project Management and Administration for motion pictures, television, and new media. In 2009, Mr. Szymanski partnered with Technicolor Creative Services’ VFX and animation studios where he revamped their recruiting procedures and attracted top talent to projects such as Clash of the Titans, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows and Sucker Punch. Mr. Szymanski was the former Senior Vice President of Creative Resources and Digital Production at Sony Pictures Imageworks, in Culver City, California, where he was responsible for the staffing and team integration of visual effects and animation productions such as, Beowulf, I Am Legend, G-Force, Cloudy with A Chance of Meatballs and Alice. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Graphic Design from The State University College at Buffalo in Buffalo, New York.
Jon Karafin, Director of Production Operations (BFA, MFA) is responsible for In-Three’s production operations, Digital Domain’s recently acquired Stereography department. Previously, Jon was Vice President of Production Operations with In-Three, Inc. and developed large scale stereoscopic production facilities in Mumbai, India and Los Angeles, CA. He has applied his diverse background in visual arts and digital production to direct and optimize the department’s daily operations, technology and stereoscopic production pipeline. In addition, Jon actively develops innovative stereoscopic techniques and systems, with the goal of increasing artist efficiency and product quality. Jon’s passion for stereoscopic media stems from a longstanding interest in combining aspects of the arts and sciences. He previously pursued academic research into 2.5D and 3D materials, stereo CG animation, holographics, and autostereoscopic displays. Endeavors such as this have earned him BFA degrees in Film, Photography, Visual Arts, and Audio Production from Ithaca College, where he was named department valedictorian. He has also completed MFA degrees in both Imaging Arts and Sciences: Fine Art Photography and Digital Animation from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).
